Take on the Week Ending January 7th

The Party Reigns

As Biden and the rest of his party apparatchiks are declaring themselves the sole protectors of democracy, they are sneakily pulling strings in various states to ensure that Biden does not have to face a primary challenge for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. Massachusetts, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee have all bypassed the democratic process and are denying challenges to Biden’s nomination in their states.[i] Now New Hampshire is on this list as well, though it is not the fault of New Hampshire’s Secretary of State, David Scanlan, who has scheduled New Hampshire’s primaries first, as that is what I mandated by the state constitution.[ii] This is in defiance of the DNC’s own decision to have South Carolina as the host of the first presidential primaries, since that is a state that Biden did extremely well in during the 2020 presidential primaries. The DNC wrote a letter to New Hampshire and scolded them for going ahead with an “unsanctioned primary”.[iii] Hilariously, they told the New Hampshire Democratic party that the primary they intend to hold is “non-compliant”, as it was determined by the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) in December 2023, and that “Non-compliant processes can disenfranchise and confuse voters, so on December 13, we informed you of several points from the RBC’s discussion that were important to mitigate the negative effects of your decision.”[iv] Apparently, following the democratic process disenfranchises and confuses voters, so does ignoring the mandates of the party leadership. Further, in the letter it says that “The event on January 23, 2024, cannot be used as the first determining stage of the state’s delegate selection process and is considered detrimental.”[v] According to them, if New Hampshire abides by the same process they have followed in previous elections, it is detrimental.

Representative Jamie Raskin, who served on the J6 Committee and is a prominent anti-Trump illiberal liberal, delivered a lecture at Dartmouth College in which he spoke at length about the threat to democracy posed by Trump, and he said “Who’s going to save us from all of this? The Democrats are going to do it. The Democrats, with all of our flaws and all of our imperfections,”[vi] Raskin said this while the very state in which he is delivering this pompous speech is being lambasted by the Democratic party elite and is having their upcoming primary declared unsanctioned and thus invalid. The party he is touting as the last hope is being anti-democratic through their propping up of Biden, and he absurdly claims that they are fighting for democracy. It does not occur to him that the DNC is as rank and corrupt as the RNC and the Republican party elite, and the difference is the RNC is finding the election of their preferred candidate, Nikki Haley, difficult and they are arguably under more scrutiny than the DNC. The same media pundits on channels like CNN and MSNBC who are carrying water for Biden and doing so for Haley as well. Trump still has such a stranglehold on enough of the Republican electorate that deposing him is nigh impossible for the RNC and their major donors.

In the case of Biden and his primary challengers, there are few who are backing their rights to challenge his nomination. The DNC is manipulating the primaries to protect Biden, and people like Raskin have the nerve to claim that his party is a bastion of democracy. They have the nerve to make such claims because they know that the attendees at his speech will not call them out, nor will the shills in the corporate media. The actions of the DNC in New Hampshire and the other states in which they have either made it incredibly arduous to mount a challenge to Biden or have in some cases outright cancelled or invalidated democratic primaries are not totally ignored. For example, Politico has consistently reported on all the manipulative decisions by the DNC in various states, however, they dismiss Biden’s challengers as “long shot candidates” and they do not report the authoritarianism of the Democratic party with anywhere near the same rancor or fear that they would if it were the RNC doing it. In fact, the corporate media is begging the Republican party elite and their donor class to back Haley and to ensure her victory over Trump for the Republican nomination at all costs. They are not averse to despotism, they just prefer that it be executed in a polite and friendly manner, couched in the typical jargon of liberalism and democracy.

The Democratic party, like Trump and the Republicans, rely on a politics of fear and terror, weaving apocalyptic narratives that promise a transformation of America into a Hades like hellscape if their opposition is victorious. Biden’s 2024 campaign strategy is, starting with his commemorative J6 speech, which I will discuss next, to establish Trump and his political movement as akin to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. Yet, behind the scenes, the Democratic party machine is slowly but surely churning away, stripping the Democratic electorate of their ability to pick a different candidate for 2024 than Biden, and if 2024 is an existential election for American democracy, then why is Biden risking a loss to Trump by running for reelection? The answer of course, is that for Biden and his cronies, it is not about the American people, it is about his personal legacy and the system that has enriched him and his coterie of globalist cretins. If democracy were truly on the ballot in 2024, then he would step aside and make way for a fresher candidate. Rich Lowry makes this point when he writes that “Biden’s position is that democracy is under such a threat that he — the man with abysmal approval ratings who most Americans believe can’t possibly serve a second term — needs to run again to eke out a narrow, no-margin-for-error victory against the man who embodies the threat.”[vii] This is one of two major contradictions in Biden’s chief case against Trump, that he is protecting US democracy. If he truly believed this, then he would allow for a Democratic primary to supplant him as the party nominee for 2024. The other major contradiction is that to ensure that he is the nominee and that he faces no competition from within the Democratic party, the DNC is coordinating with the White House to change the primary schedule to favor Biden, and his challengers, like Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson, are being scoffed at and treated like spoilers.

The Democratic party, as it is currently constituted, embodies what George Orwell described as The Party in 1984, and Orwell writes that “A Party member is expected to have no private emotions and no respites from enthusiasm. He is supposed to live in a continuous frenzy of hatred of foreign enemies and internal traitors, triumph over victories, and self-abasement before the power and wisdom of the Party.”[viii] As well as a frenzy of hatred for foreign enemies, like China and Russia, Biden and his ilk harbor a deep and impassioned hatred for who they see as internal traitors. The most egregious of these traitors is Trump. The messianic wisdom of the DNC and their handpicked candidate, Biden, is worshipped by the entire illiberal liberal class. Any act of authoritarianism carried out in the interests of the Party are not authoritarian, they are saving democracy. To the Party, autocracy is democracy and fascism is anti-fascism. Biden must be re-elected, and Trump must be defeated at all costs.

That the DNC’s autocratic behavior in New Hampshire and other states is not being held to the same standard as Trump and the GOP is grotesque and proves once again that Trump’s opposition is as despotic as him, they are just subtler and more polite about it.

The J6 Vigil: Biden’s Political Theater

Biden delivered a speech on January 5th near Valley Forge excoriating Trump and the J6 ‘insurrection’. With this speech, Biden is cementing his 2024 campaign as a crusade against the autocratic forces of Trump and Trumpism. Biden captured this when he said that in the upcoming presidential election “The choice is clear.  Donald Trump’s campaign is about him, not America, not you.  Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future.  He’s willing to sacrifice our democracy, put himself in power.”[ix] Biden is saying that Trump is obsessed with the past, which he is, but he is saying this as he is obsessing over an event from the past, an event that happened 3 years ago now. Biden also claims that Trump is willing to sacrifice US democracy to put himself in power, and while that is true, the same is true of Biden, as noted in the previous section, if Biden believed what he said about democracy being on the ballot in 2024, then why is he insisting on running when all polls indicate that he is the only Democratic candidate, aside from the word salad extraordinaire Kamal Harris, who would potentially lose a general election to Trump?

Throughout his speech, it is hard to tell if Biden is talking about himself or Trump. In a call to vote to save America’s sacred democracy, Biden said that “In the year ahead, as you talk to your family and friends, cast your ballots, the power is in your hands.  After all we’ve been through in our history, from independence to Civil War to two world wars to a pandemic to insurrection, I refuse to believe that, in 2024, we Americans will choose to walk away from what’s made us the greatest nation in the history of the world: freedom, liberty.”[x] Long ago, Biden and his posse walked away from freedom and liberty. If Americans have freedom and liberty, surely, they would be allowed to exercise that freedom by voting for Trump?

In 2020, Biden’s campaign was a fight for the ‘soul of America’ and the notion that democracy and freedom were on the ballot was repeated ad nauseum by him and all his servants in the Party, from the media to the Democratic apparatchiks. In 2024, Biden is employing the same strategy of contrasting himself with Trump as a symbol of democracy. In his speech Biden reiterated this strategy when he said that “America, as we begin this election year, we must be clear: Democracy is on the ballot.  Your freedom is on the ballot.”[xi] It is not surprising that Biden lacks originality, he did drop out of the 1988 presidential race after multiple cases of plagiarism in his speeches. A few have noted the many lies in Biden’s speech, but the most glaring lie he told was when he said “Whether democracy is still America’s sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time, and it’s what the 2024 election is all about.”[xii] This is a huge lie for three reasons, firstly, democracy was never America’s ‘sacred cause’, and even if you believe that the mission of the liberal world order following the end of World War Two was to spread and consolidate democracy around the globe, the notion that this constituted a ‘sacred’ cause is ridiculous. Mostly all the actions that the US takes to spread democracy are far from sacred. Underneath the veneer of spreading democracy, there are more sinister goals, whether it’s resource extraction or containing its adversaries. Secondly, whether America’s sacred cause will be democracy is not the most urgent question of our time unless you are a member of the illiberal liberal class, shut in a bubble, isolated from the rest of the world population. Issues like the economy are much more important to voters than an abstract idea like “sacred democracy”. Thirdly, it is not what the 2024 election is all about. Again, if you are part of the ruling class whose goal is to provoke fear in the electorate, then yes, the 2024 election is all about democracy and its sacredness, but not if you are an ordinary voter.

Biden does not value democracy, he values the current political system, which is a complete inversion of democracy. Just like Barrack Obama lulled people into a trance through his evocation of democracy and liberty, Biden is lulling people into a trance through his fearmongering about J6 and Trump.
